We pay special attention to packaging and item selection.  Our items are attractively packaged, and we choose items which are desirable and functional.  We make sure we have good groups of items.  For example, if we carry a specific style of plastic-handled serving spoon, we have matching spatulas, ladles, and salad forks.  If a customer buys one of those items, there's a good chance they'll buy the other matching items so they will have a whole set.  The same is true for our cups, bowls, baskets, and spray bottles.

Most of our items are priced to sell in a dollar store, but we also carry higher-price-point items like big packs of sponges and scouring pads, storage containers and bags, knife sets, a cordless iron, a mini sewing machine, electric toothbrushes, frying pans, and big packages of light bulbs.  In a 99 cent store or a variety discount store, our housewares will sell well and generate multiple items sales.  If you have housewares in your store, take a look at what you're selling and ask yourself if that section of your store contains attractive, functional items and encourages multiple sales.
